Willie

Guillermo “Willie” Martinez, Jr., age 61, of Alvin, passed away on July 15, 2017. He was born on April 26, 1956 in Corpus Christi, Texas but lived most of his life in Alvin. Willie married Deborah McNair on October 29, 1988 in Alvin. With that marriage came 3 children that he called his own. He was the man who stepped up when the others stepped out. Willie was a master brick layer and he left his imprint on many areas in Alvin including the Alvin Chamber of Commerce, The Old Ballpark, Schroeder Field, Lady Yellowjackets Field, Nolan Ryan Field, and many other beautiful brick structures. After his cancer diagnosis, he took pleasure in refinishing old beat up furniture into beautiful pieces that his friends and family will enjoy for years to come.

His favorite thing to do was go fishing! If he had free time and was feeling up to it, you could find him fishing on Chocolate Bayou with his brother Danny. He also loved the beach, his dogs, and spending time with his family.

Willie was preceded in death by his father and man who raised him, Daniel “Bo” Huerta; his birth father, Guillermo Martinez, Sr.; sister, Nelda Salinas; brother, Salvador Martinez; son, Daniel Wilson; and granddaughter, Ivey Abney.

He is survived by his wife, Debbie Martinez; mother, Ninfa Huerta; children: Andrea Carrerow and husband Able of Alvin, Amy Abney and husband Jason of Kentucky, and Aaron Soria of Alvin; brother, Danny Huerta and wife Rachel; sisters: Norma Garland and husband Rick, JoAnn Ramirez and husband George, Sylvia Elkhatib-Barajas and husband Solomon, and Josie Rico Betancourt and husband Frank; grandchildren: Alyssa, Andrew, Arin, Lane, Camille, Reece and Violet; and great-granddaughter, Aurora. Willie also had dozens of nieces and nephews that he loved dearly.
